Dwarf Galaxy: ESO 540-31 (Picture of the Day)

ESO 540-31
ESO 540-31 is a dwarf galaxy which is about 11 million light years from Earth in the constellation of Cetus. This image is captured by the Hubble Space telescope. A dwarf galaxy is comparatively a smaller galaxy than the regular galaxy. A dwarf galaxy will usually have between a few hundred million stars to few billion stars, which is small when compared with our own Milky Way Galaxy which has 200 - 400 billion stars. It is believed that the dwarf galaxies' formation and activities are heavily influenced by the nearby larger galaxies. Scientists are working on this subject to validate the thoughts.
