Eta Carinae: Only Star to Emit Natural LASER Light (Fact of the Day)

Eta Carinae
Eta Carinae is a hot supergiant star which is about 7,500 - 8,000 light years away in the constellation of Carina. The mass of the star now is about 100 solar masses, which means it is 100 times as massive as our Sun. This is the only star to emit natural LASER light currently. Due to its mass and the age of the star, it is expected to explode in the near future, thus becoming a supernova, which could be in a year or one million years from now, which is unknown. The two lobes covering the star are filled with gas and dust which absorbs the blue and ultraviolet light emitted by the star.
