NGC 6751: Planetary Nebula (Picture of the Day)

The Glowing Eye of NGC 6751
NGC 6751 is a planetary nebula found in the constellation of Aquila. The picture of the nebula was released on the 6th of April in the year 2000, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Hubble  (telescope) in orbit. The colours in the picture represent the relative temperature of the gas with blue being the hottest and red being the coldest. This nebula is found to be around 6,500 light years away from the Earth and has a diameter of approximately 0.85 light years which is actually 600 times the size of our solar system. Its size is expanding at a speed of about 40 kilometers per second. The star at the center of this nebula is calculated to have a surface temperature of approximately 140,000 K and has a luminosity of 9200 suns.
