New Horizons: Fastest Spacecraft Ever Launched (Fact of the Day)

Artist's impression of the New Horizons Spacecraft
New Horizons is the first robotic spacecraft en route to explore Pluto and its moons (Charan, Nix and Hydra), and eventually flying across the Kuiper belt objects. It was launched on January 19, 2006. It has just crossed the orbit of Uranus on March 18, 2011 and is expected to reach Pluto by July 14, 2015, then continuing to the Kuiper belt. It is the fastest spacecraft ever launched. After its last engine shutdown, it had a velocity of about 16.26 km/s (58,536 km/hr or 36,373 mph). It is expected to leave the Solar system by 2029 or 2030.

  1. Why not Eris space probe mission to be launched in 2015, after Pluto encounter in 2015?

  3. How come they don't even have videos on this spacecraft on the web? Even if the papers and news tell about how fast this craft can go if there's no proof about its existence, then I wouldn't believe that this spacecraft is actually out there in space.
