Hourglass Nebula (Picture of the Day)

Engraved Hourglass Nebula
Engraved Hourglass Nebula (MyCn 18) is a young planetary nebula in the constellation of Musca. It is about 8,000 light years away from Earth. The star at the center is about 110,000 K hot. This nebula is actually a cloud of gas produced by a Sun-like star which is nearing the end of its life. The star is shedding off some of its surface material as it does not have enough fuel.
